20th March 2014

In October, we held a third core group meeting.  Team members were joined by advisory board member Hugo van der Merwe of the Centre for the Study of Violence and reconciliation, who also gave a public lecture hosted by the project, the Centre on Human rights in Conflict, and the London Transitional Justice Network. http://www.tjdi.org/event/hugo-van-der-merwe-building-democracy-through-transitional-justice-instigating-active-citizenship/.

Discussions focused upon the challenges of identifying causal pathways and the use of fieldwork evidence. This included a discussion of the elements of democracy under study and modes of interpreting evidence. Chandra updated team members on fieldwork in Brazil in August, and the challenges of framing causal questions for interview purposes.
